The GM designers appeared to get it just right in this model release, as every bodyline seemed sculpted to denote power, with bulging ridges present on the hood and a discreet amount of chrome.
This design would be superseded for the 1970 model year, which was a much different blend of styling ideas.
That this example is also a convertible design only adds to its attraction.
As noted, this Chevelle has been given mild upgrades of a day two flavor that leave much of its assembly line DNA intact.
Under the hood is a 396/325 HP V-8 Turbo-Jet engine, the L35 Mark IV mill that was the mainstay of the factory street Chevrolets of the 1960s.
Upgraded with Moroso valve covers and air cleaner, a bare-metal Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, yellow plug wires and MSD 6AL electronic ignition pieces, if you were there, this was how they all rolled back in the days of Cruisin' USA.
The boulevard reputation grew stronger when you threw gears, and an M21 Muncie 4-speed manual transmission is behind the engine.
This car features power brakes and power steering, too.
The Chevelle legend is verified by red paint with matched white stripes, a white soft top and a white vinyl interior.
That interior includes bucket seats, a center console, Hurst shifter with a white knob, an in-dash clock, factory tachometer and a Bowtie-logo radio.
The exterior has dual chrome exhaust tips, SS396 emblems on the grille and front fenders, the rear SS blackout panel and a rear-mount radio antenna.
The final touches are SS-center 5-spoke road wheels wearing upgraded BF Goodrich Radial TA tires.
